Story by Mary (Everman) Quint, written May 5, 1968

I was born in Glendale, California 20th January, 1923, to Elizabeth and Lynn Everman. My folks moved to Roswell, New Mexico when I was two years old. One year later we welcomed a little sister, Maurine. My sister and her husband live in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They have a little girl, Victoria Lin (Vicki). He is a Col. in the Air Force. This year or the next they will be retired from the Air Force which they are looking forward to and plan on moving somewhere in Colorado.

Roswell was ny home till I was married. We lived on a ten acre irrigated farm, four miles southwest of Roswell. Was a lovely home. Went to Washington Ave. Grade school, Roswell Junior High, then graduated from Roswell Senior HIgh School in May, 1942.

During my growing up years my Dad was quite a sportsman. I was always going hunting with him. I killed my first deer - a 6 point buck, - when I was fifteen years old. Is quite a trophy for me, and still have my gun - a 25-35 Winchester. Our whole family are quite outdoors people. We have done lots of camping in the mountains west of Roswell, fishing and hunting.

Maurine and I had horses which we rode a lot and our bicycles. Our Grand-dad Everman lived two miles north of us on Hwy 70 and after they paved that highway in early '30's we would take our roller skates over on an evening and skate on the Hwy with all the neighbor kids.

In the summers we did a lot of swimming in the Bottomless Lakes east of Roswell. We thought that was so much fun. Mother and Dad are both good swimmers, and they taught Maurine and I to swim at an early age. I believe I was five when they taught me to swim.

In May of 1942 I met and fell in love with Ralph Quint the night I graduated from High School. We had a short courtship. We were married 14 November 1942 in the old farm home as that is what Mother and Dad wanted. They like home weddings. Ralph was a Corporal in the Air Force. I worked on the base just a few buildings from where Ralph worked. I was in Civil Service. We met so many wonderful friends. We still keep in touch with the closest ones - Alfred Halfmoons, Gerald Deeters, Russell Marschecks. Then we were all parted as all the fellows were shipped overseas. Ralph was gone about a year in the Philippines. Came home in 1946 and discharged from the Air Force. We moved to Kansas on our farm and on December 25, 1946 we were blessed with our beautiful little girl, Shirley Ann. A lovely Christmas gift!

The Quint estate then sold us the farm in 1947. We then moved back to Roswell in 1949 where we were blessed with our wonderful little boy, Ronald Lynn, 14 Aug. 1949. Ralph worked and kept books for my Dad, a carpenter contractor. Ralph was also Foreman for an irrigated farm owner, Stanley Barnett. We finally decided to move back to our farm in Kansas in 1954, where we built us a lovely new home in 1962 and we have really enjoyed it so much!

Shirley attended her kindergarten and first grade in Roswell, New Mexico schools. Then she attended grade and High School which she graduated from in Hill City, Kansas. She has been active in school band, church, FHA, 4-H work. Now in College third year nursing student. Is active in Nursing Club, Rainbow. She has gotten the Rainbow Nursing Scholarship now for two years.

I have been working part time at Howland Abstract in Hill City. Very interesting work.

We are lovers of the great outdoors. We love camping on the lake, swim, fishing and boating.

Well, just a few passing thought of our past or my past - and looking forward to the future.
